Juelz Santana (Feat. Skull Gang) - I Am The Club

Def-Jam Employer Sues Def-Jam For Being Hired To BOOST Sales

A former music executive is accusing a unit of Universal Music Group and a promotion company of distorting the pop charts by persuading independent retailers to falsify album sales.

Veteran sales executive Theressa Rossi said in a lawsuit that she was induced to become the "front man" for a company hired by Universal's Def Jam label to inflate sales figures reported to the tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan, which compiles the industry's influential sales charts.

Independent retail stores were provided with free CDs of Def Jam artists by Giaco Entertainment, a New York marketing firm retained by the label, the suit said.

Giaco enlisted the merchants to repeatedly swipe the CDs across scanning machines to boost sales figures, distorting Nielsen SoundScan's computerized reports, according to the suit, which did not specify which albums were involved. Giaco threatened retailers with delays of regular album shipments if they did not falsify sales data, the suit said.

The complaint, filed Monday in New York state court, names Universal, Def Jam, Giaco President Joe Giaco and Def Jam executives Kevin Liles and Mignon Espy as defendants.

Universal Music, a unit of Vivendi Universal, said it hadn't reviewed the lawsuit and declined to comment. Def Jam is one of the nation's largest rap labels, with acts such as Ja Rule and DMX.

In the past, representatives of the five major record companies have denied knowledge of any attempt by their labels to manipulate the data.

Giaco's attorney, Steven K. Meier, called the claims "patently untrue," according to a report by Bloomberg News.

Nielsen SoundScan officials couldn't be reached for comment. Previously, executives with the New York-based market research company have said they have installed safeguards to uncover and remove false CD sales reported by record stores.

According to the complaint, Universal had moved to sever ties with Giaco in 2001 after a Los Angeles Times article described potential inflation of music sales data by independent promoters.

The suit alleges that Liles and Giaco colluded to create a new marketing company -- Entertainment Marketing Services, with Rossi as a principal -- to conceal from Universal executives that Def Jam and Giaco had not severed their relationship.

Giaco refused to open his financial books to Rossi and later forced her out while withholding her share of the profits, according to the suit, which seeks $22 million in damages.

For the music industry, Rossi's allegations could have a wide ripple effect. Nielsen SoundScan's figures, used to compile Billboard magazine's sales chart, are widely considered the most trustworthy measurement of consumer tastes.

Before SoundScan's arrival in 1991, the industry's charts were based on verbal reports made by retailers.

Fast forward to 2007 when the several year-old case made it's way to the New York State Supreme Court, the parties settled, and the court tossed out the case. Oddly Ms. Rossi then acknowledged that the claims and allegations against Mr. Giaco were without basis and untrue. She then agreed that she WOULD NOT "DISCUSS, PUBLISH, OR DISSEMINATE TO ANY PARTY THE CLAIMS AND ALLEGATIONS." [Vibe Magazine]

With big names like Kevin Liles, record labels like Def Jam, and a 3 year time span, its amazing that they kept this under the radar but in this new age of the internet, the truth is never too hard to find! I am not accusing Def Jam of any wrong-doing, but you can draw your own conclusions...

Thousands Disappointed After Fabolous Misses Harvard Show

Allhiphop reports:

Brooklyn rapper Fabolous left thousands of fans at Harvard University disappointed this past Saturday (April 25), by missing a scheduled performance at the Eleganza Fashion Show fundraiser.

The rapper was supposed to take to the stage around 9:00 PM for the fundraiser, but missed the show due to a prior engagement at Brown University.

Around 10:45 organizers told the 1,500 attendees that Fabolous would not be performing and asked everyone to exit the venue.

Fabolous eventually arrived around 11:30 PM, but it was too late.

Representatives for the rapper admitted to being at fault and returned half of the deposit on Saturday, while agreeing to pay the remaining balance this week.

The 15th Annual Eleganza Fashion Show is aimed at celebrating cultural diversity on the Ivy League school’s campus.

Proceeds from the show are donated to Boston charities that work with underserved urban youth.

Jay-Z: “The Day Obama Got Elected, The Gangsta Became Less Relevant.”

In a recent interview with Cigar Aficionado Magazine Jay-Z says:

“Obama represents so much hope for blacks and Latinos. The hope he represents is bigger than any of the huge problems he could possibly correct,” he said. “When you have positive role models, you can change your life for the better. The day Obama got elected, the gangsta became less relevant.”

Juelz Santana & Freekey Zekey Hint At Dipset Reunion

Dipset's Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey have expressed their anticipation for this year's Summer Jam 2009 in New York City hinting at a possible surprise.
Click here to find out more!

Speaking on what it means to bring Skull Gang alongside Jim Jones' Byrd Gang and Zekey's 730 Dips, Santana compared the threesome to past record label powerhouses.

"Ah, man, it's beautiful," Santana said about what it looks like to see everyone's crew onstage together. "That was the whole plot. For everybody, for all of us to have, how can I put it? Roc-A-Fella, Bad Boy and Death Row, we all bosses in our own right. We got the swag, we got the energy. That's what I feel the whole idea of it is. To get us to the point where everybody's team is solidified and all the bosses are still comfortable with each other and we can all come to the table. Roc-A-Fella, Death Row and Bad Boy, imagine what the tour would have been like." (MTV News)

Resisting any specific details, Zekey confirmed his presence at Hot 97's annual concert.

"I just gotta tell you, stay tuned for Summer Jam," he declared. "Like I said, it is what it is right now. N*ggas ain't talking to each other over simple sh*t, nobody killed nobody took no money from nobody, it ain't even no beef...This is a family dispute...We gonna be jammin' in the summer." (Hip Hop Beef)

Cam recently addressed his issues with Jones in an interview with radio personality Angie Martinez.

"It's a wrap," Cam explained. "I called Jim. Everybody kinda not been speaking for three years anyway, it just got in the public. Once a problem gets in the public for me, it can't be fixed...Recently, about a month ago, I called [Freekey Zeeky's] phone, I speak to Jim, I say cool, maybe we can work some stuff out, I was really at the point we could really work some stuff out, like three minutes before I did a MTV interview...He gets on the radio and be like, 'No, me and Cam didn't speak, I don't know what he's talking about'...Three days after that, he says he did speak to me on the phone, but my whole thing is, why lie about a phone conversation." (The Angie Martinez Show)

Santana and Jones were both recently named to headline Summer Jam 2009.

Hosted by comedian Tracy Morgan, this year's line-up includes Mary J. Blige, The-Dream, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Elephant Man, Young Jeezy, T-Pain & Friends, Jadakiss and surprise guests. (The Angie Martinez Show)

Last year's event featured a star-studded line-up of billed artists and surprise guests.

Summer Jam 2008: Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Rihanna, T-Pain, Ray J, Yung Berg, The-Dream, D-Block (Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch), Public Enemy, Lil Wayne and Gym Class Heroes. (Village Voice)

This year's concert is set to take place June 2009.

Lil Wayne Album Pushed Back Again, No Date On Young Money Comp

Even an appearance on The View can’t help Lil Wayne’s upcoming rock album, Rebirth, get on the shelves any quicker. Entertainment Weekly has learned that the new disc has been delayed yet again, with label reps blaming the hold up on sample clearances.

Rebirth, which was originally slated for a April 7 release, has been moved numerous times even sharing a date with Eminem on May 19 at one point. A rep for the Grammy-award winning artist at his Universal label home has confirmed a new June 23 date. Apparently the label wants to the release the Young Money compilation on the same date as well, which is also complicating the matter. Yet as of press time Universal tells XXL that there is no date for the Young Money album.

Wayne has a long history with copyright infringement cases. He recently settled a suit over a Rolling Stones sample, and is currently fighting over a sample used by South African folksinger Karma-Ann Swanepoel’s song “Once,” for his track “I Feel Like Dying.

Jay-Z Swings Secret Track "Loso's Way," Fabolous Comes Clean

Fabolous' forthcoming album will contain a collaboration with Jay-Z called "When The Money Goes."

"Actually, it got leaked and it was a version with Jay only rapping on it and it's called, 'When The Money Goes,' Fabolous said. "Jay had recorded something to it, I guess what you hear on the leak, for American Gangster and I don't think it made the final cut so he had reached out to me, knowing that I was working on this project and knowing the theme of what I was trying to put together and said, 'Yo, I got a record that might fit in to play.' So, when he brought the record to the table it did. I re-vocaled it. Jay is just on the hook as far as that was his idea for the hook." (SOHH)

Jay-Z's version of "When The Money Goes" leaked to the internet earlier this year.

"A new song by the rapper surfaced online Tuesday afternoon (January 27) called "When the Money Goes." The breezy track features Hov posing a number of questions to his mate about her commitment to him, should he face a turn for the worse. As of press time, there's no word whether "When the Money Goes" will appear on The Blueprint 3 or if it's slated for another project. (MTV)"

Fab's album, Loso's Way, is loosely based on the Al Pacino film, Carlito's Way.

"I think we had some similarities," Fab told SOHH. "Carlito was a street dude trying to make the transition from the streets to something better. That's where I felt like I was at in my point in my life of becoming a hip-hop artist and making that transition from the streets to a hip-hip artist."

Rihanna to LAPD -- Gimme Back My Bling!

TMZ reports:

Rihanna lost more than her innocence the night she was allegedly beat up by Chris Brown -- she's also out $1.4 million in jewelry.

RiRi is asking the cops to hand back a pair of earrings and three rings the cops logged as evidence on the night in question. And get this -- the jewelry isn't even hers. According to docs, the bling belonged to four companies which loaned it to her for the pre-Grammy party she attended with Brown that night.

Rihanna's attorney, Donald Etra, claims he asked for the jewelry back earlier this month and submitted written requests on April 7 and April 17. Etra also claims that Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, has no problem with the jewelry being released.

The earrings are described as yellow metal hoop earrings with white stones. The first ring is a yellow metal ring with white stones and green stones. The second and third rings are described as being yellow metal rings with white stones.

Brown faces a felony assault charge and a charge of making criminal threats.

Lil Wayne weighs in on the NBA playoffs: Says Lakers Going to Win it all- What Do You Think???

Sports commentator, Lil Wayne makes his NBA Final Predictions:

"Just so no one gets it twisted: the Lakers are winning the NBA Finals. Now that KG is out, the C's aren't gonna go anywhere, which is a shame. You always like to have the defending champs in there to fight like hell to hold on to their crown. Doc Rivers doesn't want to believe it. And as competitive as KG is, I can't imagine even being around him right now -- how frustrated he must be because all he wants to do is get out on that court. He's probably breaking stuff in his house, he's so mad.

Anyway, so now we're looking at a Lakers versus Cavaliers final, and that's going to be amazing. Kobe won't get the best of LeBron, but the Lakers will get the best of the Cavs. I'll be rooting for the Lakers, and LeBron already knows that. So it's not like I'm gonna show up in a Kobe jersey and make 'Bron Bron cry. He knows I've been a Laker fan my whole life so it's all good. That don't mean he likes it, but he ain't gonna cry when he sees me at the games screaming for Pau Gasol and Trevor Ariza.

But LeBron will be OK. He's gonna win the MVP this year. That will be his consolation prize. Phil Jackson and the Lakers will walk away with more rings, but LeBron will get his trophy."

WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THE NBA FINALS THIS YEAR??

"Hand In My Pocket” - 360 Record Deals Look To Become The Norm

Ask any respectable artist (read: one with a likely career in the industry) about a 360 record deal and they’ll tell you that it’s nothing short of a pact with the devil. For decades, labels have charged copious amounts of dollars for recording, manufacturing and distributing albums, but the show money was always their bread and butter. But according to Edgar Bronfman, CEO of Warner Music Group, the option to have the label in your pocket every turn of the way is no longer an option — it’s become mandatory.

Bronfman argued to a hostile crowd that it doesn’t make sense for labels to pour money into artist development when CD sales, their primary source of revenue, continue to decline (although he did say that digital sales now make up 20% of their revenue). Without other ways to make money from an artist, he said, they wouldn’t continue to promote artists.

What all this boils down to is record labels becoming increasingly disconsolate that they’re living in a world where artists are growing less dependent on them. Does a Drake or U-N-I need a record label to give away free music at one of their shows or online?
Let’s be real here.

Artists are accomplishing more and more without the security blanket of a major corporation so who’s going to feel pressured to split every slice of the pie with a company that can’t even promote their product to the fullest extent of their dollar?

And as for artist development, Mr. Bronfman, I believe Curren$y said it best the other day:

When there’s no market for the bullshit, the labels will stop signing the bullshit, packaging the bullshit, shipping the bullshit…and filling the shelves with bullshit!

Take notes Mr. Major Record Label USA and act like you have the power to change things. Signing artists whose first hit is will obviously be there only hit, got you in this mess to begin with.

T.I.'s Bodyguard Gets Same Sentence As MC For Weapons Charges

T.I.'s bodyguard, who served as the point man for the attempted illegal firearm purchase that will send the rapper to prison next month, has also been sentenced to a prison term of one year and one day, according to TheSmokingGun.com.

Corey Williams, 34, worked for Tip for five months in 2007 prior to becoming an informant and wearing a wiretap to assist federal authorities in their attempt to arrest the Atlanta rapper. Williams was arrested one month before T.I.'s November 2007 bust on the eve of the BET Hip-Hop Awards. The bodyguard had no previous record and agreed to cooperate with federal agents in a sting operation against T.I. to reduce his own sentence. But Williams and his former employee will now both spend the same amount of time in prison.

Last month, T.I. was sentenced to one year and one day in prison after working out a plea deal in March 2008. Under the terms of the rapper's plea, he was ordered to complete 1,000 hours of community service (none of his work on his MTV reality series "T.I.'s Road to Redemption" will be counted), pay a hefty fine and receive a lesser sentence than the 10 years he was originally facing. The rapper must also comply with a number of regulations post-jail-time as well, including additional community service and home confinement.

Williams, on the other hand, worked out a plea deal of his own with his lawyer, Mildred Dunn, before the same judge as T.I. But he was not able to receive a shorter sentence than his former boss, whom he turned state's evidence against.

When T.I.'s unique plea deal was first announced, many wondered how a previously convicted felon attempting to purchase heavy artillery could get away with what some amounted to a slap on the wrist. 50 Cent suggested in a mixtape track that perhaps T.I. "snitched" to get a more lenient sentence. Murmurs about the rapper's cooperating with authorities spread online and in the streets.

Just a few weeks ago, Tip addressed the "snitching" accusations in an interview with MTV News' Sway conducted one day after he was sentenced by Judge Charles Pannell Jr.

"If being a cooperating witness was part of my plea agreement, there's documents online, it's public record, just like any other inmate. You get his name, his number, there's a document online," Tip told MTV News in Atlanta during "T.I.'s Road to Redemption: The Reckoning." "Whatever his plea agreement, whatever the conditions of his plea agreement are, just like you know I'm gonna have to go for a year and a day, just like you know I'm gonna be on three years' supervised release, just like you know about how much home incarceration I got, if being a cooperating witness was a part of my plea agreement, it would be in there. They have nothing to gain by keeping me snitching a secret.

"As a matter of fact, it benefits them more, so they can say, 'Well, this is why we gave him this deal,' " T.I. continued. " 'Because he gave us this.' And not to mention, there's no such thing as a secret snitch. If you could snitch and then keep it a secret, there would be no use for the witness-protection program. You have to sign your name on paperwork, you have to sit on the stand, you have to point people out, you have to set people up. I got snitched on."

As for T.I.'s point, although Williams' identity had been cloaked, he did have to take the stand and testify against the rapper. In court proceedings, the bodyguard was referred to only as "Cooperating Witness" or "CW." But court records indicate Williams' legal team asserted their client provided "substantial" assistance during a federal probe.

Williams is currently serving his sentence in a South Carolina minimum-security federal lockup and is scheduled to be released in July of this year.

Kim Kardashian Gets Sunburned — Badly

Kim Kardashian just tweeted, “PLEASE HELP ME! I am so sunburned! I fell asleep with huge glasses on yesterday! This tan line is not ok!!!”

The 28-year-old reality TV star continued on her blog, saying, “I’m in Mexico and I was sunbathing when I fell asleep with my huge Prada butterfly sunglasses on and now look at me! I’m going to have to hide from cameras for days. I usually never get red, I always get dark. It hurts!”

Kim continued, “Everyone here is making fun of me! .....”

L.A. Reid On 50 Cent, "He's One Of The All Time Greats"

Island Def Jam chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid recently revealed his thoughts on 50 Cent’s success within the music industry labeling him one of the “all-time greats.”

Speaking with renowned television host Charlie Rose, Reid dished out Fif’s accomplishments comparing his head-to-head 2007 Soundscan battle with Kanye West.

“50 Cent is one of the all time greatest [rappers],” Reid explained. “He’s one of the greats. First of all, he had a great voice and as a rapper, an amazing voice. He was authentic, he is also a great song writer, right? So they were evenly matched for the sort of battle. And I think Kanye, at that point, had the better song…I like to believe it’s always the great song. It’s always the song…[But] a good artist with a great song can be a one-hit wonder. It can be number one…Some of the greats don’t always go for a number one record…Or Jay-Z who in my opinon is the Frank Sinatra of our day has had many, many hits and has huge success but Jay told me he had never had a number one pop record. But he has more number one albums than any artist alive…But I do know he won’t jeopardize his integrity to get a number one record. (The Charlie Rose Show)
Along with handling multiple rap acts, Reid recently gave fans an update on whether Jay’s Blueprint III would be released on Live Nation or Def Jam.

Nate Dogg Cleared Of Stalking Charge

Criminal charges have been dropped against Nate Dogg, who was accused of stalking and threatening his estranged wife.

California prosecutors on Wednesday dropped the charges against the 38-year-old rapper, whose real name is Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, saying the alleged victim has not contacted them.

Hale pleaded not guilty in July to two counts of making criminal threats and one count of stalking as well as a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license stemming from a prior DUI conviction.

The criminal threat charges stem from a pair of e-mails Hale sent his wife, while the stalking charge accused him of chasing the woman's car on a freeway.

Obamas report $2.7 million in income for 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, millionaires from his best-selling books, made $2.7 million last year and paid just under one-third of their adjusted income in federal taxes. While the income, mostly his, was far more than the U.S. median household income of about $50,000, it was quite a decrease from the $4.2 million the Obamas made in 2007.

Both years, nearly all of the earnings came from Obama's best-selling books. "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope" — brought in about $2.5 million in royalties last year, according to copies of the returns released by the White House on Wednesday, the federal filing deadline.

Obama earned $139,204 as a Democratic senator from Illinois last year before leaving his seat after winning the November election. Michelle Obama received a salary of $62,709 from the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she was an executive.

The couple's total federal tax came to $855,323. That was 32 percent of their adjusted gross income of $2,656,902.

The Obamas overpaid by $26,014, and elected to apply that amount to their 2009 taxes.

The couple's federal tax deductions included about $50,000 in home mortgage interest.

They reported contributing $172,050 to charity last year, including $25,000 each to the CARE international relief agency and the United Negro College Fund. That $172,050 represented about 6.5 percent of the family's adjusted gross income. That is higher than the national average of roughly 4 percent among Americans who give to charity, according to U.S. government figures.

THIS SHIT'S GONNA BE TIGHT WEN IT COMES OUT. MAY 5TH IS THE RELEASE DATE PEOPLE!!!

Mims Not From New York?

MimsIn recent weeks, there has been speculation from bloggers accusing New York rapper Mims of lying about his upbringing, specifically where he grew up.

In a blog entry posted on Sohh NYC, an email sent from an anonymous source claimed that the rapper grew up in a wealthy area of Long Island called Westbury (home to daughter and grandchildren of late mob boss John Gotti), contradicting claims by Mims that he'd grown up in the rough neighborhood of Washington Heights.

"I grew up in [Long Island] and I had beef wit some dudes in a town called Westbury, and I found out at the high school that Mims went to that school [Westbury High School]," the source claimed. "Nobody shows him love [in Westbury], even when he tried to come back. He came [to Long Island from The Heights] around the age of 12. Too young to know really know The Heights.

"Here is another fact why he is from [Long Island]," the entry said. "After high school, he went to Nassau Community College, located on the border line between Westbury and Uniondale, right next to Nassau Coliseum. Nobody goes to that school unless you're from [Long Island]. Nobody."

Despite the rumors, Mims maintains that he's from New York City, no matter what any "hater" says. In a recent sit-down with the rapper, he set the record straight for us.

"I'm from Washington Heights. I was born and raised in Manhattan, New York on 164 between Broadway and Fort Washington, that was my block," Mims told BallerStatus.com. "I moved away when I was 16 or 17 years old. If you want to go to that block and ask anybody about me -- go ahead I welcome you to."

Mims admits that in his late teens, he did, in fact, move to Long Island -- Westbury to be exact -- but it was because his mother had passed. He moved in with his aunt and uncle, but explains that he moved around a lot and pays homage to all the past cities he's lived -- including Brooklyn, and even Jamaica Queens.

However, he makes it clear, he's New York through and through. If you don't believe him, Mims challenges you to put him to the test.

"I tell people my story because when people say I'm not from New York, I say, 'I'm the epitome of New York'," the rapper exclaimed. "There is nothing you can tell me about the train system, or the bus system. I know every block in New York City. I know half of Long Island, so if you’re looking for a tour guide, I can bring you around. There is nothing on me that doesn't spell out New York. So for anyone trying to falsify information saying that I'm not from Washington Heights, or from New York, do your history man, because I don't lie about my story. I'm not here to fabricate."

To the rapper, anyone who questions his background are just haters, and looks forward to anyone doing so meeting him face to face.

"For all you haters out there that keep trying to throw salt on my name, or tell me that I'm not what I am, hey man, I'm not a chump, I'm no punk," Mims said. "I would love to meet up with some of these people face to face because most of them are corny. A lot of them are just computer thugs that have nothing else better to do but to hate on somebody.

"I'm not even angry, I love it because hate is the new love," the rapper maintains. "I just think people misconstrue and think because I do records and I preach positivity that I'm going to let the next man step on my shoe. If you step on my shoe, you better say sorry and I'll forgive you if you say sorry. But if you do it on purpose, you might just get punched in the face. That's my attitude, I'm not a gangsta, a thug, or killer, I don't have to run around talking about murdering people, it's just not me. I'm not a chump and I'm not someone that you should underestimate, and that's all I got to say."

And that's all he had to say. To end his explanation, Mims had no qualms about plugging his sophomore album, Guilty.

Jadakiss Debuts At No. 3, Sells Over 134K In First Week

Jay to the Mwah done did it. The Yonkers MC surpassed expectations on his first week on the Billboard 200 sales chart with his Def Jam debut, The Last Kiss.

The rapper’s first solo set since 2004’s Kiss Of Death, reached the no. 3 position behind countrified acts Miley Cyrus and the Rascal Flats. Breezing past the 100,000 projections, Kiss officially pushed 134,520 copies of his CD according to Nielsen’s SoundScan. Boasting features from his Lox brethren, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, Nas, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Raekwon and Ghostface, among others.

The next hip-hop release is Flo Rida all the way down at the no. 17 spot. R.O.O.T.S, the muscle-bound rapper’s sophomore release fell nine places down this week, scooping up 31,740 sales numbers. In his second week, Rida has sold a total of 87,100 copies.

UGK, who lead the rap pack last week, dropped from no. 6 to no. 20 this week. The group’s final LP, UGK 4 Life, pushed an additional 26,300 discs this week, making its two-week tally 102,900.

Amy Winehouse turned down a duet with Eminem

The Real Slim Shady rapper, whose new track We Made You hits shops on Monday, asked Amy to feature on his next album Relapse, out next month.

He reckoned the Rehab singer could help him repeat the success of his superhit Stan, which topped charts around the world in 2000.

Key to its brilliance was the contribution of Amy’s fellow Londoner DIDO, whose song Thank You provided its backbone.

Eminem wanted Amy to work similar magic for him — but the beehived one had other ideas.

My source says: “Amy was flattered by the offer. She loves hip-hop and is a big fan of Eminem. But she didn’t feel it was the right thing to do at the present time.”

Another insider adds: “Eminem has followed Amy’s career closely. They have both had drug addiction issues and he empathises with her and hoped to feature her on Relapse.

“His idea was to make a track as magical as Stan. But unfortunately Amy declined.

“He understands that recently she hasn’t been in a state to focus on music because of her tumultuous private life but he hopes they will get together on a future project.”

Dr. Dre & Eminem No Shows At Snoop Dogg Concert

Eminem and longtime associate Dr. Dre skipped out didn’t make it out to Snoop Dogg’s performance at last week’s Our World Live Concert in Los Angeles.

New York’s Daily News reports that Em and Dre were supposed to be Snoop’s surprise guests but canceled at the last minute. Apparently the Doc’s security people got into a car accident and decided not to go without his bodyguards.

An insider told the paper that Em didn’t want a show without his producer. “Since Dre couldn’t make the concert, Eminem didn’t want to perform either,” he said.

Dre will make it up to Snoop, though. He is expected to hit the stage at a private party with the Doggfather next month. – Elan Mancini

Kanye West Responds -- Humbly! -- To 'South Park' 'Fish Sticks' Slam

Kanye West Responds -- Humbly! -- To 'South Park' 'Fish Sticks' Slam
'I'm not a douche,' West insists in contrite blog post.

It appears that being depicted as a gay fish might actually turn out to be a good thing for Kanye West.

For those who missed it, West was positively slammed on Wednesday night's episode of "South Park" — which centered around a baldfacedly juvenile joke about the term "fish sticks" — coming across as an egotistical jerk who is masking deep-ceded desires to live life as, uh, a "gay fish."

At the end of the episode, after denying his latent feelings, West — dressed in a green vest and skin-tight fish-scale pants — finally realizes that he can't keep his inner fish closeted anymore, tells his crew "It's time for me to stop running. A gay fish just cant live in the outside world forever," then leaps off a pier and launches into an Auto-Tuned song while humping various fish.

Now, we're fairly certain that the Kanye of old would've flown into a fit of rage over his portrayal on the show. But, on Thursday (April 9), West took a different tact, posting a link to the show his blog, and writing (in ALL CAPS, of course) that he wasn't upset, because he used the episode as motivation to display some new life skills. It would seem that Kanye has turned over a new ... er, fin.

" 'South Park' murdered me last night, and it's pretty funny. It hurts my feelings, but what can you expect from 'South Park?'" he wrote. "I actually have been working on my ego. ... Having the crazy ego is played out at this point in my life and career. I used to use it to build up my esteem when nobody believed in me. Now that people do believe and support my music, the best response is 'Thank you' instead of 'I told you so!'

"I just wanna be a doper person, which starts with me not always telling people how dope I think I am. I need to just get past myself. Drop the bravado and just make dope product," the post continued. "As long as I act like a b---h, this type of sh-- will happen to me. ... I'm not actually a huge douche. I'm sure the writers at 'South Park' are really nice people in real life. Thanks for taking the time to draw my crew. That was pretty funny also."

Perhaps someone should've called him a "gay fish" sooner.

Charles Hamilton Claims 50 Cent Is A Bully, But Goes After Him??

Now I know the AllHipHop rumors section can be mythical, but I just wanna put this out there on some ill sh1t. I think 50 is losing this battle with Ross, and for a more entertaining feud on wax, he should diss someone who loses battles all the time. You know, like me. I mean, he can easily make the world laugh at me (again) with his hysterical post-track ad-libs. I just don't think he can make ANYONE in the world say he's lyrically better than me. Besides. He's relevant enough to warrant a response fro me. Not only relevant, but he's not some "old n1gga", ie the old n1gga from Chicago that has a pointless issue with me. 50 could really damage me and whatever's left of my credibility in this business.

Or face the same fate as this blog entry in a few sentences and get ended.

Damn. Imagine if Banks and Yayo got at me, too!!! Damn!!! NO ONE on ThisIs50 would like me. I mean, I might make friends with like Game and Buck, but Game and I are on shaky ground and Buck and I never met in person.

Either way, 50 Cent is a f*ckin bully. And I hated bullies in high-school. I always ended up cool with them in the end, but now that I'm kinda like the bully's favorite victim's bully, I wanna bully 50 for being a bully. I mean, he ADMITTED to it. lol

50, you don't want no problems wit Harlem!!!

And if anyone thinks 50 would take it to the "guns" with me, you need a serious weed break. I think me and 50 verbally slap boxing would make WAY more sense than me being a PR person for someone who's failed career hinges on my response to them.

And I still think Curtis is a great guy. It's this 50 n1gga that needs a playpen...

Pruane The YouTube Kid Reviews Eminem "We Made You" [Video]

Ahah this kid is too much!

Eminem's Celebrity Targets Respond To 'We Made You' Video

By our count, Eminem slammed something like 20 celebrities in his just-released "We Made You" video — everyone from Jessica Alba to Amy Winehouse — a number that might be a record, even for him.

Since it's been a little more than 24 hours since the video premiered on MTV, we figured it was about time for some of those celebrities to return fire. And they have. Sort of.

First to respond — perhaps because she's hit harder than anyone in the clip — was Jessica Simpson ... or, more specifically, "a friend of hers," who told MSNBC.com's "The Scoop" that Simpson was bothered by Em's barbs but that she had already brushed them off.

"Of course Jess finds it annoying," the source is quoted as saying, "but it's not like she's the only one who was singled out."

Kim Kardashian — who attacks Em with her ample posterior (and is subsequently shoved into a wood-chipper) in the clip — didn't need a friend to do her talking. She let her blog do it for her, posting that she thought the video was "so funny" and considered the spoofing to be an honor.

"I just saw Eminem's new video ... and he totally spoofs me. It was a total surprise to me, because I had no idea he was going to talk about me in the song, [but] I think this video is so funny," she wrote in the post. "I am a huge Eminem fan and find it flattering that he would rap about me. He's a bit harsh about some other celebrities, but you just have to let it go and have a sense of humor. Personally, I'm honored."

That's about all the responses we've been able to track down so far, but we're still holding out hope for a scathing reply or two. Come on Bret Michaels, John Mayer and/or Lindsay Lohan: We know you've got it in you.

Rihanna's Dad Unhappy With Chris Brown's Not Guilty Plea

Ronald Fenty said Brown needs to 'stop being in denial.'

While his daughter reportedly just wants the see it go away as quickly as possible, Rihanna's dad is not happy with how the case against Chris Brown is progressing.

Speaking to UsMagazine.com shortly after Brown entered a not guilty plea in the case on Monday, Ronald Fenty said that Brown "needs to stop being in denial" about what he is alleged to have done.

Brown, 19, appeared briefly in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday to enter the plea to two felony counts of assault and making criminal threats in the case, which stems from an early morning incident on February 8, when Brown is alleged to have beaten Rihanna, 21, following an argument.

"So what happened? Somebody else did this to Rihanna then?" Fenty reportedly said to the site. "I just would like to see justice go in the right direction."

If Brown is claiming he's not guilty in the assault — police have not charged anyone else in the incident, and Rihanna has cooperated in the investigation and reportedly named Brown as her alleged assailant — Fenty said he would like to know who is responsible for bruises and cuts seen on his daughter's face in a widely circulated photo taken after the alleged altercation.

"I don't want his career to be damaged — it's damaged already," Fenty said of the singer, who has lost some endorsement deals and seen his music yanked from a handful of stations since the alleged assault. "I think he's a talented guy, but everybody should have to pay. When you do the crime, you do the time. I don't want to see him locked up for a long time — I just want him to acknowledge and get some help."

Brown released a statement a week after the incident, saying, "Words cannot express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," adding that he was seeking the counsel of his pastor.

Several domestic-violence experts have suggested that someone who has been charged with the crimes Brown has would benefit from anger-management therapy or professional relationship counseling, but it is unknown if Brown has sought that type of help. Spokespeople for the singer have not returned calls and declined to comment on his personal life.

"If he's not guilty, who did it?" Fenty asked again. "He should say 'guilty' and let the court be leaning into him and try himself to the mercy of the court, see if he gets a fine. ... Now he's going to go beyond that, and it could go longer, it can be even worse. It can be worse for him in the long run."

Nas Making a Diss Record Against Tupac?

Rumors about late iconic rappers are lately flying around for some reason in the music world. This one is ironically about the previous story’s friend and enemy, Tupac and Nas.

Rapper Nas is reportedly in the works with Damian Marley working on a new LP. So there is a lot of gossip floating around in is direction. We all respect and love Nas's lyrical talents. How he speaks about things that really matter in life like his fellow rapper the late Tupac. But to say that Nas's lyrical skills are better than Tupacs, is just asking for trouble.

A war between Tupac and Nas has been going on for quite awhile. Tupac has dissed Nas in songs like ‘Against All Odds’ and ‘When We Ride On Our Enemies’ but Nas never really responded. Nas's fans wondered, was it because he was scared of Tupac?

Well Nas fans “stop fretting!” Now that Tupac is sadly no longer among us, some are saying that Nas’s ego has grown and with this new album he is going to prove, that in fact, he is the better artist. Nas may possibly be bringing the beef back with Tupac in one of his songs on the new album. He may just finally be getting his revenge.

Is this true? Some are saying, yes! Nas is not making any statements on the subject. Soooo, I guess the verdict is, “Get The Album!”

Lil Cease Speaks On Lil Kim "Its Been 12 Years. Why You Even Still Talkin About Big In That Kind Of Matter?"

THIS SETS EVERYTHING IN THIS INTERVIEW

Eminem Uncovers "Relapse", "Dr. Dre Produced Most Of The Album"

Grammy-winning rapper Eminem recently discussed long-time producer Dr. Dre's impact on his upcoming Relapse album and the process of finding his new song 'We Made You."

While Em has been known to produce, the rapper has allowed the former N.W.A. member control the overall sound of his fifth album.

"Dre produced most of the album, basically all of the album except for maybe one or two songs," Em said in an interview. "It was great, we got in there. We were looking for this song for a long time, you know, and finally one day it just hit us. We got the record, went in and made it and Dre just put his touches on it, made everything bigger, had the rhyme and it was, you know, that's basically it." (Rap Radar)

His first music video in five years, aside from collaboration appearances, will air on MTV next week.

'We Made You,' Eminem's first video in five years, premieres on MTV Tuesday, April 7 at 6 a.m. While Eminem has struck a provocative balance between the serious to the silly with his videos, the shocking headlines from his outrageous clips will probably always overshadow his more dramatic work. (MTV)

He has also announced plans to drop a second album before the end of 2009.

"A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year," Eminem said in a statement. "I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff." (Press Release)

Aside from his own projects, D12's Bizarre recently said a group album is currently in the works.

"Everybody's in D12 and we're doing good," Bizarre told radio personality Jenny Boom Boom. "[A new album] is definitely going to happen. We're working on it right now, Marshall Mathers is coming out first with Relapse...I'm on Eminem's album...I'm recording a couple of songs. Big up to Dr. Dre." (Jenny Boom Boom)

The New York Giants Release Plaxico Burress

Newsday reports:

Plaxico Burress' troubles are no longer the Giants'.

The team released the troubled wide receiver Friday afternoon, ending a four-year relationship that began when he was signed as a free agent before the 2005 season and reached a boiling point when Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg in a Manhattan night club in November. Burress was suspended for the final four games of the 2008 season after that incident and although Giants players and coaches said he would be welcomed back, the team decided to move ahead without him.

"I am an optimist, and I believe most situations can be worked out," general manager Jerry Reese said. "We hung in there as long as we could in hopes that there could be a resolution to this situation other than the decision we made today to release Plaxico. It wasn't to be, so now we have to move on. Like everybody else here, we want nothing but the best for Plaxico, and we are appreciative of the contributions he made to this franchise."

In his four years with the Giants Burress caught 344 passes for 3,681 yards and 33 touchdown passes. He caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII.

"Plaxico's contribution to our championship season in 2007 can never be underestimated or undervalued," Tom Coughlin said. "He displayed tremendous determination throughout that season. Having said that, I have always been as concerned about Plaxico as a man as I have been about him as a player, and my hope is that everything that has happened over the past several months represents a turning point. He is a young man with a family who has a whole lifetime ahead of him, and I personally wish him and his family well."
